Project Overview

Project: Post-Operative Care

Description:
The Tucker County Department of Health and Human Services is onboarding 20 home health care providers. To expand its service offerings to the community, home health care providers need to add in-demand skills to their repertoire. TCDHHS needs to offer training and certification for skilled care, specifically for providing Post-Operative Wound Care for patients following invasive surgical procedures. This project will give home health care providers the skills necessary to care for wounds appropriately.

Objectives:
Execute post-operative wound care instructions in accordance with case management instructions.

Audience:
20 new-hired home health care providers at TCDHHS.

Constraints:
1-hour training time including all assessments.
No extra budget for supplies, training must be eLearning format.

Data Collection


HR System:
Demographics of new hires.
Supervisor Interviews:

  • Eligibility for registration limited to new hires.

  • Number of patients within the TCDHHS needing the service to determine if expansion is necessary.

  • Post-test score.

Subject Matter Expert (SME) Interviews:

-Review training procedures and receive CDHHS-approved  sources

Recommendations

Training Course:
A course will be developed to meet the following learning objectives: 
Identify types of wounds
Classify care for surgical wounds
Describe surgical dressings and drains
Solve problems and determine when advanced care is needed

Assessment:
Learners will have a pre-test option prior to completing the training to show understanding and test out of the course.
Following the training, learners will be expected to score a minimum of 80% to earn course certification.


Final Testing and Project Approvals:
User feedback was given from stakeholders and changes were implemented that included greater interactivity and more accessible design elements.
The project was accepted and is a training module used by TCDHHS HR and its service offerings have been expanded.
